I had to format my PC last week, and now my PC doesn't allow me to mount
compressed 'floppies' anymore - the CD I used to install Windows 98 doesn't
seem to have those files!
How can I get Drivespace 3 back? I need the files on those compressed disks,
and don't know anyone with a Win98 machine.

Thanks in advance!

The Win98 cd will have "drivespace" on
it.

you will need to go into the control panel and install that partitcular
component
and it will be installed from the cd.

Since I am not currently booted to my win98 machine I cannot offhand confirm
where it is

but if you look around under "add or remove Windows components"

I'm sure you will find it.

It may be in system tools

I cannot find it on the CD.
The CD I have is a copy of my original, which was damaged by an
overly-playful puppy some years back (now a full-grown Rhodesian ridgeback,
weighing in at 90 lbs.)

If you look on the cd you will need to use the advanced search
it will not show up as it's compressed in one of the .cab files.

best to use the control panel to install that componenent

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs / Windows Setup.
Select System Tools and Details. Make sure Disk compression tools is
checked. They are not installed by default.

If the option isn't there then the tools are already installed, and you will
need to indicate why you think they aren't working (eg, what happens when
you attempt to use a compressed disk). It is possible to make some changes
so they can be re-installed.

Do not attempt to install the tools by copying stuff off the installation
CD - you need to go through Windows setup to have the tools installed
properly.

ohh.. there is actually people using drivespace? and on floppys too....
*oh horror* :-D

I thought that kind of drivers was dead allready before they
renamed doublespace to drivespace.

There are no utilities that can read drivespace-archives without
having to install a driver? some multicapable compressionprograms
like winrar or 7zip I mean....

remember to make a bakup of your files to some other floppys/cd/usbmemory
